Aravel produce handmade 100% leather sandals, inspired by ancient Greek designs. Their sandals are handmade from local craftsmen, using simple and traditional methods. The brand motto is ‘Every sole has a story’, highlighting the idea that each sandal is lovingly made by hand. Their main focus is on offering simple and timeless designs, using high quality leather.
The client wanted to redesign the existing logo to give it a minimalist high-end outlook, since he felt that the existing brand, didn’t represent the products. There was also a desire to create more inspiring packaging, that would highlight and bring out the mission of the brand.
Drawing inspiration from modern and ancient Greece, our design was inspired by the ancient Greek god Hermes, and the kerykeion / caduceus he carried with him, which was known as a symbol of peace as well as the sandals and helmet he was wearing that both had wings on them. We’ve chose to demonstrate the wings, in a much simpler way where the letter ‘V’ is showcased with wings extending from it, making the link with ancient Greece very clear. In addition, the symbol almost looks like a flying bird, hence indicating that Aravel sandals are lightweight, airy and comfortable helping you move freely and at ease.
